Presidente do Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, de 2013 a 2023, Professor Catedrático Jubilado da Universidade de Lisboa. Ocupou e ocupa diversos cargos em organizações internacionais da sua área científica. Dirigiu diversas organizações académicas e científicas e desenvolveu atividade de investigação em Geomagnetismo, Geofísica Marinha e Riscos Naturais. É autor ou coautor de +100 artigos indexados, publicados nas principais revistas científicas de Geofísica. É vice-presidente da classe de ciências da Academia de Ciências de Lisboa.
President of the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere, from 2013 to 2023, Emeritus Full Professor at the University of Lisbon. He has held and still holds several positions in international organizations in his scientific area. He has directed several academic and scientific organizations, and developed research activity in Geomagnetism, Marine Geophysics and Natural Hazards. He is the author or co-author of +100 indexed articles, published in the main scientific journals of Geophysics. He is vice-president of the science class of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.
