Hélder Sousa Silva é deputado ao Parlamento Europeu na 10.ª legislatura (2024–2029), onde integra as comissões da Cultura e Educação (CULT), da Segurança e Defesa (SEDE) e dos Orçamentos (BUDG) e preside à delegação UE-Brasil. Na comissão da Cultura e Educação, é relator permanente dos ficheiros orçamentais, incluindo o parecer sobre o próximo Quadro Financeiro Plurianual (QFP). Foi deputado do Grupo Parlamentar do Partido Social Democrata na Assembleia da República durante a XII Legislatura. Em 2013, cessou funções para assumir a presidência da Câmara Municipal de Mafra, cargo para o qual foi eleito e reeleito em 2017 e 2021, tendo exercido funções até 2024.
Hélder Sousa Silva is a Member of the European Parliament in the 10th term (2024–2029), where he serves on the Committees on Culture and Education (CULT), Security and Defense (SEDE), and Budgets (BUDG), and chairs the EU-Brazil Delegation. On the Committee on Culture and Education, he serves as the standing rapporteur for budgetary files, including the opinion on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). He was a member of the Social Democratic Party’s parliamentary group in the Portuguese Parliament during the 12th legislative term. In 2013, he stepped down to assume the presidency of the Mafra City Council, a position to which he was elected and reelected in 2017 and 2021, serving until 2024.
