F. D. Santos has a M.Sc. in Geophysics by the University of Lisbon (UL) and a PhD. in Nuclear Physics by the University of London. Full professor of Physics and Environmental Sciences at UL and Director of the PhD program on Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies – UL and Nova UL. His present area of research is climate change and sustainability. Published more than 150 peer-review papers in physics, climate change and sustainability and various books by Springer. Review editor of the IPCC AR5 WGII and presently chairman of the Portuguese National Council of the Environment and Sustainable Development. From 1999 to 2019, he was Portugal’s delegate to the United Nations Commission for the Peaceful Use of Outer Space, and elected 2nd vice-president in 2008-2009 and 1st vice-president in 2012-2013.
