Rui M. Rodrigues Rocha (IEEE S’89, M’94, SM’07) é Professor Associado no Departamento de Engenharia Electrotécnica e de Computadores do Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), onde se licenciou e obteve os seus graus de Mestre e Doutor. De 1983 a 1986 trabalhou na Portugal Telecom como Engenheiro de I&D. Desde 1986 que ensina arquitectura de computadores, comunicações de banda larga e sistemas sem fios. Em 2001, lançou o programa de graduação em Engenharia de Redes de Informação e Comunicação no IST, o qual coordenou até 2006.
Foi investigador no INESC de 1982 a 1997. Desde 2001 que é filiado no “Instituto de Telecomunicações” em Lisboa. Participou em vários projectos europeus, nomeadamente no “RACE” e mais tarde nos programas “IST-framework”, bem como noutros projectos nacionais, abrangendo áreas que vão desde redes de comunicação heterogéneas a sistemas ciberfísicos.
Desde 2010 tem estado interessado no desenvolvimento de pequenos satélites, sendo responsável pelo Projecto ISTSat-1, integrado no programa educativo da ESA “Fly Your Satellite! É co-fundador e actual co-director do IST NanosatLab.
Rui M. Rodrigues Rocha (IEEE S’89, M’94, SM’07) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), where he graduated and obtained his MSc and PhD degrees. From 1983 to 1986 he worked in Portugal Telecom as an R&D Engineer. Since 1986, he has been teaching computer architecture, broadband communications and wireless systems. In 2001, he launched the Information and Communication’s Networks Engineering graduation programme at IST, which he coordinated until 2006.
He was a researcher at INESC from 1982 to 1997. Since 2001, he has been affiliated with the “Instituto de Telecomunicações” in Lisbon. He has participated in several European projects, including RACE and later the IST framework programmes, as well as other national projects, covering areas ranging from heterogeneous communication networks to cyber-physical systems.
Since 2010, he has been interested in the development of small satellites, being responsible for the ISTSat-1 Project, integrated in the ESA Education program “Fly Your Satellite!”. He is the co-founder and current co-director of the IST NanosatLab.
