Tiago Baptista is a Principal AI/ML Engineer and AI Chapter Lead at Neuraspace, and a Professor and Researcher at the University of Coimbra, with over 25 years of combined experience in Software Engineering and Research in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, High Performance Computing, Artificial Life and Complex Systems.
Started his professional career working for research groups on external industry projects in several areas such as industrial automation, embedded systems, user interface, and high-performance computation. Some of these projects then lead him to join Critical Software in its first years in business. Went on to pursue his Ph.D. at the University of Coimbra, in Artificial Intelligence which he completed in 2012. During that time, he was a researcher at the Evolutionary and Complex Systems Group, and from 2009, a Professor at that same University. He has then re-joined the software industry, back at Critical Software, to help develop the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning initiative at the company. There he has served as technical lead for several AI projects, applying techniques from several fields such as Natural Language Processing, Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Deep Learning, or Big Data, and later as the Head of Artificial Intelligence, driving the company’s strategy in this area. Recently, in 2022, joined Neuraspace as a Principal AI and ML Engineer and leader of the AI Chapter, helping drive the efforts of applying AI to the Space domain.
