João Monteiro is a Researcher at IST NanosatLab. He will present ISTSat-1, a small satellite with a cubic shape, each side measuring 10 cm.
Its mission is the in-orbit demonstration of a system developed at IST for decoding ADS-B signals sent by aircraft. In addition to this decoder, the ISTSat-1 distinguishes itself from other small university satellites as all subsystems were developed from scratch by students and professors, with minimal use of commercial solutions. The ISTSat-1 will be launched into a 560 km altitude orbit on the inaugural flight of ESA’s new rocket, the Ariane 6, in July 2024.
